Community Supported Agriculture
Here is what I know:
- It’s awesome to buy food from someone who is actually growing it.
- So much good stuff comes to you when you have the opportunity to do that.
- The increase in nutrition factor ALONE makes it worth doing.
To actually grow your own anything takes some skill. Chad Wasserman (chadsorganics.com) has this skill. It’s awesome. Every other week I get to pick up crisp, clean, ripe, lively, nutritious fruits and veggies from someone who is actually growing them.
He is also, from what I gather, obsessed with dirt. That also seems like a good thing.
What I don’t know:
I don’t know what happens to my food from the time it is removed from its home, and shows up in mine. Depending on point of purchase, the options are ENDLESS.
Really – ENDLESS.

Here is my offer to you.
Chad has some openings for his CSA. E-mail him to sign up.
Supporting Community Agriculture in ANY CAPACITY seems like a good thing to do. I would encourage you to do it in your local area.
In Hilo, here are some other ways you can make this happen:
- Hamakua Mushrooms – these guys give tours!
- Ho’onani Honey from happy local bees at: adreanb@gmail.com
- Lava Rocks Puna Goat Cheese at the Hilo Farmers Market
- Hawaii Island Food Basket
- Naha Stone Sweet Potato Chips at the Hilo Health Co-Op
- The Localvore Store
I wanted to share this. Those stinking tomatoes keep teaching me so much.
Speaking of which – Chad’s tomatoes are so rocking and happy. I know I have been going off about mine – but trust me…you will want to purchase his!
